The Bazantar, a custom five-string acoustic bass, boasts twenty-nine sympathetic strings and four drone strings. With a melodic range spanning over five octaves and a sympathetic range of four octaves, it creates a captivating interplay of melodies, sympathetic vibrations, and drone accompaniments, crafting a lush sonic landscape.
Containing over 2,700 samples, it offers both multi-samples and phrase-samples. Multi-samples include plucked and bowed variations, with options for vibrato and up to 10 round robins per note, alongside dynamic sustains/swells. Mark Deutsch's playing, both traditional and with the backside of the bow (Col Legno), is captured in phrase-samples.
Equipped with diverse controls such as pedal volume, release volume, noise reduction, and EQ, as well as a visual velocity editor, it provides ample customization options. Additionally, users can explore a range of convolution reverbs and effects. Recorded in a resonant church environment using two sets of microphones (close/internal and ambient/player), users can tailor the sound to their preferences.
