The U.S. Navy has granted Data Link Solutions (DLS) – a collaborative enterprise between BAE Systems and Collins Aerospace – a contract with an indefinite delivery and quantity, potentially reaching a $1 billion maximum for the Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio System (MIDS JTRS).
This contract encompasses the ongoing production, upgrades, improvements, and maintenance of the MIDS JTRS terminals with provisions for future expansion. MIDS JTRS enhances situational awareness and enables Link 16 connectivity, providing secure, jam-resistant, line-of-sight voice, video, and data communication for naval, terrestrial, and aerial assets.
Both the U.S. and its international partners operate within network-centric, information-rich environments where the capabilities of communication, navigation, and identification are critical for mission success. It is essential for military personnel to make rapid, informed, and interoperable decisions, necessitating real-time data exchanges of large volumes. MIDS JTRS facilitates interoperability using Link 16 across various forces.
"MIDS JTRS connects different generations of platforms within a unified communications network, delivering more robust and secure gateways even in the most challenging environments," stated Amber Dolan, director at Data Link Solutions. "This award allows Data Link Solutions to update thousands of MIDS JTRS terminals, introducing new capabilities to support a range of missions for the U.S. Navy and allied forces."
