In December, Bulgaria experienced a slight uptick in consumer price inflation, reaching its highest rate in five months, according to data released by the National Statistical Institute on Wednesday. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 2.2% year-over-year, following a 2.1% increase noted in November. This marked the most significant rise in inflation since July, when prices had risen by 2.4%.

In terms of specific sectors, annual price growth in housing and utilities quickened to 2.8% from 2.5%. Concurrently, the decline in transport costs moderated to 0.6% from the previous 3.4% decrease. These trends were key contributors to the inflationary pressure observed in December.

On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices rose by 0.4% in December, a deceleration from the 0.6% increase recorded in November.

For the entire year of 2024, the average annual inflation rate was reported at 2.4%. Additionally, EU-harmonized inflation edged up slightly to 2.1% in December from 2.0% in November. The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) posted a steady monthly increase of 0.3%.
