Denmark experienced a notable increase in consumer price inflation in December, reaching the highest level in seven months, according to Statistics Denmark's recent report. The consumer price index saw a 1.9% year-over-year rise in December, accelerating from November's 1.6% growth.
The report highlighted that utilities, especially rent, electricity, and district heating, significantly influenced the overall inflation figures, accounting for half of the increase. Food and non-alcoholic beverages saw inflation climbing to 4.7% from the previous month's 3.9%. Transportation costs saw a modest uptick of 0.3%, while healthcare expenses increased by 1.8%.
In contrast, the annual price growth for electricity, heating, and residential housing was slightly reduced to 3.2% in December, compared to November's 3.5%. Core inflation, which leaves out the more volatile sectors of energy and unprocessed food, rose to 1.5% from 1.2%.
On the monthly measure, consumer prices remained steady, declining by 0.3%.
