(PMI), within the U.S. This decision, grounded in scientific evaluation, validates the claim that ZYN nicotine pouches serve as a superior alternative for adults who smoke or use conventional tobacco products, according to a company statement.
In a separate announcement, the FDA revealed that it has approved the marketing of 20 ZYN nicotine pouch products through the premarket tobacco product application (PMTA) process, following a comprehensive scientific review. This marks the first instance in which the FDA has sanctioned products commonly known as nicotine pouches. These are small pouches made of synthetic fibers that contain nicotine and are designed to be placed between a person's gum and lip.
The FDA specified that it has issued marketing orders for the following ZYN products, each available in two nicotine strengths (3 milligrams and 6 milligrams): ZYN Chill, ZYN Cinnamon, ZYN Citrus, ZYN Coffee, ZYN Cool Mint, ZYN Menthol, ZYN Peppermint, ZYN Smooth, ZYN Spearmint, and ZYN Wintergreen. The authorizations pertain exclusively to these products and do not extend to any other nicotine pouch or ZYN products. Additionally, the approval does not allow the company to make claims about reduced risk associated with these products, which would necessitate a separate application for a modified risk tobacco product.
