France experienced an unexpected uptick in industrial production in November, primarily driven by a resurgence in the output of transport equipment, according to data released by the statistical office INSEE on Friday.
Industrial production increased by 0.2 percent in November from the previous month, during which it had declined by 0.3 percent. This rise defied economists' predictions of a projected 0.1 percent decrease.
In manufacturing, there was a 0.2 percent rise, partially reversing the previous month's 0.1 percent decrease. Within this sector, transport equipment manufacturing experienced a strong 3.8 percent increase, while the production of coke and refined products saw a modest rise of 0.1 percent.
Conversely, the manufacturing of food products and beverages, as well as machinery and equipment goods, each declined by 0.7 percent.
Additionally, the sectors of mining and quarrying, energy, waste supply, and waste management all reported a slight increase of 0.1 percent in November. Meanwhile, construction output growth improved to 0.3 percent from the previous 0.2 percent.
