Hard-hitting percussion by Hollywood's top session percussionist.
Introducing the first-ever Boobams sample library, featuring renowned Hollywood percussionist M.B. Gordy. This ‘secret weapon’ instrument, coveted by composers, delivers a powerful attack and unique timbre. The library includes four hit types for versatility, an Ensemble mode for epic sounds, and a three-octave range, making it perfect for film, game, and TV scores.
What Are Boobams?
Boobams are tonal percussion instruments made from rectangular wooden tubes of varying sizes. They produce a woody sound, ranging from tight and punchy to full-bodied, depending on the strike type (mallet, fingers, sticks, etc.). This rare instrument, created by composer Harry Partch, has a rich Hollywood history, featured in films like Planet of the Apes and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Jazz musicians such as Chet Baker and Shelly Manne have also used its distinctive sound in their compositions.
Library Features:
- Versatility: Well-defined transients cut through mixes, excelling in both quiet tension and epic tracks.
- Four Hit Types: Includes fingers, hot rods, mallets, and sticks.
- Extended Range: Expanded from two to three octaves (C2 to C5).
- Ensemble Setting: Layer up to four hit types for a rich, unique sound with adjustable tightness.
In addition to acoustic sounds, the library offers sound-designed presets like apocalyptic impacts, sizzling bursts, filtered pops, and delicate fantasy sounds. Use the presets or create unique sounds with Playback and Perform controls.
Collaboration:
This library is a collaboration between acclaimed percussionist M.B. Gordy and composer Lennie Moore. M.B. has performed on scores for Transformers, Harry Potter, World of Warcraft, and Call of Duty, and toured with Pharrell Williams and Josh Groban. Lennie, known for his work on Outcast 2: A New Beginning and Halo: Combat Evolved, contributed his expertise to create an exciting and versatile Boobams library.
