Italy experienced an unexpected decline in retail sales for the second consecutive month in November, according to preliminary data released by ISTAT, the national statistical agency, on Friday. The value of retail sales decreased by 0.4% compared to the previous month, building on a 0.5% drop in October. Economists had predicted a 0.2% rise for November.
Breaking it down, sales of food items saw a marginal decline of 0.1% month-on-month, while non-food goods saw a more significant contraction of 0.7%. On an annual basis, the growth in retail sales slowed to 1.1%, down from 2.6% in October.
