La-Z-Boy Inc. (LZB) has announced a leadership transition within its Board of Directors. Melinda Whittington, the current President and Chief Executive Officer, who also serves on the Board, has been elected as the Chair of the Board. This position was previously held by Michael Lawton, who will now resume his role as the independent Lead Director.
Melinda Whittington became part of La-Z-Boy as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer before being appointed CEO in 2021. Her professional journey includes being the Chief Financial Officer at Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, and serving as Senior Vice President, Corporate Controller, and Chief Accounting Officer at Kraft Foods Group, Inc. (now part of The Kraft Heinz Company). Whittington's extensive financial career spans two decades at The Procter & Gamble Company, where she held progressively senior roles. She is also on the Board of Directors at Best Buy Co., Inc.
Michael Lawton has been a board member since 2013 and took on the role of non-executive Chair in 2022. Prior to this, he was the independent Lead Director from 2021. Lawton retired from Domino’s Pizza, Inc., after serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, in addition to other senior roles such as interim Chief Information Officer and Executive Vice President of International. Before his tenure at Domino's, Lawton was the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Gerber Products Company, now part of Nestlé S.A. He continues to contribute his expertise as a member of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Audit Committee at Universal Corporation.
