Nick Clegg, the President of Global Affairs at Meta Platforms, announced his intention to step down from his role later this year. Clegg will be succeeded by Joel Kaplan, who has recently served as Clegg's deputy and has been appointed as Meta’s Chief Global Affairs Officer.

Reflecting on his tenure, Clegg shared his thoughts via X on Thursday: "With the dawn of a new year, I have decided that it is the appropriate moment to transition from my position as President of Global Affairs at Meta. It has indeed been a remarkable adventure! I take pride in the contributions I have made in leading and supporting teams across the company, ensuring that innovation aligns with enhanced transparency and accountability, alongside the development of new governance models."

Clegg joined Meta—then known as Facebook—in 2018, following an extensive career in British and European public service. Before his election to the UK Parliament in 2005, he served in the European Commission and was a member of the European Parliament for five years. Clegg led the Liberal Democrat party from 2007 and played a pivotal role as Deputy Prime Minister in the UK's first coalition government since World War II, from 2010 to 2015. He has authored two best-selling books: "Politics: Between the Extremes" and "How To Stop Brexit (And Make Britain Great Again)."

Clegg further noted, "I aspire to have contributed in some measure to bridging the diverse worlds of technology and politics—realms that will undoubtedly continue to interact globally in unpredictable ways."

His successor, Joel Kaplan, is a well-known Republican who previously served as the White House Deputy Chief of Staff under President George W. Bush.
