In December, Mexico experienced a continued decline in consumer confidence for the second consecutive month, reaching its lowest point in seven months, as financial and economic outlooks remained subdued, according to a survey conducted by the statistical office INEGI and released on Monday.
The consumer confidence index saw a decline, registering at a seasonally adjusted 47.1 in December, down from 47.6 in November. This marked its weakest point since May, when it stood at 46.8.
Expectations among households regarding their financial situation over the next 12 months remained relatively stable as the year concluded, with the sub-index slightly increasing to 58.7 from 58.6 in November.
However, perceptions of the economic situation for the upcoming year weakened, hitting a three-month low, with the index decreasing to 51.4 from 51.9. Furthermore, consumers expressed skepticism about making major purchases, as reflected by the index dropping to 30.4 from 31.3.
