"We cannot assert Earth's uniqueness in harboring life in the universe without displaying an unjustifiable arrogance," remarked Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Recent sightings of legitimate UFOs and unexplained aerial phenomena have reignited the timeless debate: "Are we alone in the universe?" This question prompts reflection on our humanity on this small, spinning rock in space. Inspired by this concept, this sample pack explores evocative sound design rooted in human and natural sources. Collaborators Charles Van Kirk and Emily Greene created this collection, envisioning the cinematic music and sound design palette they would craft if scoring films like Arrival or Dune, starting solely with the human voice.
The duo experimented by recording their voices in unconventional spaces: singing through didgeridoos, fans, reverberating rooms, and other found objects. They integrated these sounds with tonal elements from furnaces, motors, and bird calls captured on Hawaii's Big Island. Each sound underwent multiple stages of sampling, stretching, re-amplifying, performance manipulation through Sensory Percussion and various synths, resulting in a chilling, ominous, and truly captivating cinematic soundscape.
Pushing beyond the familiar, these vocal-derived samples maintain a distinct human quality, ideal for inspiring sci-fi film scores. Whether as unsettling drones for dark electronic music or sampled sensory percussion for tracks seeking extraterrestrial intrigue, these creations beckon listeners to embrace the eerie glow of alien craft and journey into the unknown.
