N-Spectral Mask functions as a spectral envelope follower that can be modulated either internally or by an external sidechain signal. It effectively reduces smearing, pre- or post-ringing, and resonances/decays.
In SELF mode, N-Spectral Mask behaves akin to a spectral gate. Increasing the MAIN control applies self-modulation across the 256 frequency bands that the SPECTRAL MASK divides the signal into.
Using the SPECTRUM BLEND, you can select specific parts of the frequency spectrum to mask, providing precise processing control.
N-Spectral Mask's EXT (External) mode is particularly useful. It allows you to route a sidechain signal into the plugin, facilitating unique spectral envelope following for different signals, or primarily focusing on restoring pre-FX frequency amplitudes.
The RELEASE slider enables you to smooth the masking envelope, whether you're softening strong masking/gating or damping dominant isolated frequencies.
While high-FFT size spectral FX plugins can produce impressive sounds, they often introduce undesired artifacts like smearing (pre- or post-ringing), deterring users due to perceived sound quality degradation.
Spectral Mask not only enables these effects but also restores original frequency amplitudes, effectively gating out smearing artifacts or resonances caused by a plugin.
