Nokia, the Finnish multinational telecommunications company, has been chosen by Openreach to develop its One Network Platform, an open-access fiber network poised to serve millions of residences and businesses across the UK. This development was announced on Thursday.

The initiative will leverage Nokia's Altiplano and NSP network domain controllers to extend Openreach's service footprint from 17 million to 25 million premises by the close of 2026, catering to the increasing demand for high-speed internet services throughout the UK.

Openreach's open wholesale broadband network currently delivers ultrafast full-fiber connectivity through approximately 300 communication service providers, reaching not only urban centers but also towns, villages, and remote rural areas across the UK. With Nokia's technology, the Openreach One Network Platform is equipped to offer the scalability, flexibility, and efficiency necessary to address market needs while significantly reducing the number of exchange buildings required nationwide.

Nokia's modular data center solution assists Openreach in constructing an expansive, efficient open-access network that slashes power and space demands by more than 50%. This solution also accommodates flexible deployment models suitable for various population densities, simplifying service provider connectivity.

The utilization of Nokia's Altiplano and NSP controllers enables Openreach to automate fiber services across diverse technologies, decreasing operational complexity by 85% and delivering comprehensive network insights via streaming telemetry.

In financial markets, Nokia's stock (NOK) closed at $4.66 on Wednesday, marking a 0.65% increase. However, in after-hours trading on the New York Stock Exchange, the stock fell to $4.60, a 1.29% decline.
