Remote browsing, also known as remote browser isolation (RBI), is a cybersecurity technology that separates a user's web browsing activity from their device:
- How it worksWhen a user visits a website, RBI loads and executes the web content in a remote environment, instead of on the user's device. The user's device only receives a pixel-based stream of the page, not the active content.
- BenefitsRBI protects users from web-based threats by keeping malicious content contained in the remote environment. This reduces the attack surface and ensures that browser-based cyberthreats don't reach the user's device or corporate networks.
- User experienceRBI doesn't impact the user's experience. The user receives a safe, visual representation of the content.

In 2017, Gartner identified RBI as one of the top technologies for security.
