Global markets were buoyant as expectations built for U.S. President-elect Trump's upcoming inaugural address, anticipated to inject new momentum into market dynamics. Trump is poised to enact over 200 executive actions immediately, with a focus on border security and energy production.
The benchmark BSE Sensex, comprising 30 leading shares, closed a steady session with a rise of 454.11 points, equivalent to a 0.59% increase, settling at 77,073.44. Meanwhile, the broader NSE Nifty index ended at 23,344.75, reflecting a gain of 141.55 points or 0.1% from its prior close.
Additionally, both the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index saw increments of 0.7% and 0.8%, respectively.
Market breadth displayed a positive trend, with 2,501 shares appreciating, 1,559 declining, and 168 remaining unchanged on the BSE.
Wipro surged by 6.6% following third-quarter results for the fiscal year 2025 that surpassed expectations.
Kotak Mahindra Bank climbed over 9% after receiving brokerage upgrades subsequent to a robust third-quarter performance.
Bajaj Finance and Bajaj FinServ both experienced an increase, each rising over 3%.
NTPC rose 2.7% following news of its capital expenditure expansion plans.
Among the key decliners, Adani Ports, HDFC Life, Shriram Finance, Trent, and SBI Life saw decreases ranging from 1% to 3%.
