On Thursday, Indian stock markets exhibited minimal movement, ultimately closing without significant change as trading recommenced following the Christmas break. The S&P BSE Sensex concluded almost unchanged, displaying a slight negative inclination at 78,472.48, after experiencing its most challenging week in two and a half years. Meanwhile, the broader NSE Nifty index edged up by 22.55 points, or 0.1 percent, to settle at 23,750.20 amidst the expiration of monthly derivative contracts.
Notably, shares of companies within the Adani Group witnessed substantial gains. Adani Ports surged by 5.2 percent following the announcement of MSC Michela's arrival at Kerala's Vizhinjam port, marking the docking of its 100th commercial vessel in under six months. Additionally, shares of Adani Enterprises, Adani Energy Solutions, and Adani Green recorded increases ranging from 1 to 4 percent.
Other notable market movements included a roughly 2 percent rise in shares of Shriram Finance, Maruti Suzuki India, SBI Life, and Mahindra & Mahindra. Conversely, JSW Steel, Tata Consumer Products, Asian Paints, and Titan Company experienced declines of around 1 percent each. Mazagon Dock ended its five-day losing streak with a 2.2 percent gain.
Intellect Design Arena saw a remarkable 10.6 percent increase, extending its gains from the prior session, while One Mobikwik Systems (Mobikwik) rose 2.4 percent, marking its third consecutive day of advancement. However, shares in the recently listed NTPC Green Energy dropped by 5.7 percent as the one-month shareholder lock-in period concluded.
On the international front, key global markets, including those in Europe and Asia, remained closed today in observance of the Boxing Day holiday.
