Indian equities opened on a steady note with a slight upward trend on Friday, amidst subdued signals from global markets as the year 2024 nears its end.
In early trading, the benchmark S&P/BSE Sensex gained 242 points, a rise of 0.3%, reaching a mark of 78,715. Concurrently, the broader NSE Nifty index saw an increment of 82 points, translating to a 0.4% increase, positioning it at 23,832.
IndusInd Bank experienced a 1.4% jump following the announcement of plans to divest nearly Rs 1,500 crore of distressed assets.
Among other gainers, Mahindra & Mahindra, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Bajaj Auto, and Tata Motors registered increases ranging from 1% to 2%. Conversely, HCL Technologies, Adani Ports, and TCS faced minor setbacks.
Religare Enterprises saw a 1.3% decline following the Madhya Pradesh High Court's decision to pause the company's annual general meeting slated for December 31, and its subsequent stay on the Reserve Bank of India's approval of the Burman family's open offer to obtain an additional 26% stake in the firm.
Reliance Power climbed over 1% after the Delhi High Court granted preliminary relief to its affiliate, Reliance NU BESS, in a petition challenging its disqualification from three contractual bids.
However, RBL Bank decreased by 1.5% after offloading its entire 8.16% stake in DAM Capital Advisors.
