Slovakia experienced a deceleration in consumer price inflation for the first time in three months this December, according to data released by the Slovak Republic's Statistical Office on Wednesday.
Consumer prices increased by 2.9% year-over-year in December, which is a reduction from the 3.2% rise observed in November. Despite this slowdown, the inflation rate remains above the central bank's medium-term goal of 2.0%.
Specifically, the annual price increase for food and non-alcoholic beverages slowed significantly to 2.4% in December, down from 4.7% in November. In contrast, transport costs escalated more rapidly, showing a 3.5% increase, and healthcare expenses continued to grow steadily at 5.3%.
On a month-to-month comparison, consumer prices fell by 0.4% in December, marking a reversal from a 0.2% increase in the previous month.
For the entirety of 2024, the average annual inflation rate recorded was 2.8%, as reported by the agency.
