*Assemblies
In SOLIDWORKS 2024 Assemblies, useful updates have been made to the component insertion tool functionality. When selecting a configuration, not only is the configuration name displayed, but now the configuration description is also displayed. Pinning and floating options are also included in the property manager. We can choose to pin only the first component, pin, or float without response. Also notable are updates to mate references and mate creation, such as a new option to “create mates only when names match.” Creating mates only when mate reference names match produces predictable results with much more efficiency. These new additions are sure to boost your productivity, SOLIDWORKS 2024 .
*Parts, Features, and Sketches
SOLIDWORKS 2024 brings us some great enhancements to sketches, features, and parts. New in SOLIDWORKS 2024, sketch dimension previews make it super easy to fully define our sketches. We no longer need to activate the smart dimension tool! The Hole Positioning Wizard has been simplified by making it easy to leverage existing 2D sketches. Linear patterns going in two directions are even easier in SOLIDWORKS 2024.
*Sheet Metal
What's New in SOLIDWORKS 2024 Sheet metal, tab, and slot features can be propagated to adjacent components when we reuse a part that already has tab and slot features defined. The Stamp feature is a new way to create a formed feature with a closed sketch. This can save time and effort by skipping the step of setting up a forming tool. Creating sheet metal parts from cylindrical and conical bodies has never been easier with some improvements to the Rip command, where all we need is a circular edge and a sketch point to define where the rip space should go. These new improvements should make creating and using sheet metal parts faster than ever.

New import features in SOLIDWORKS 2024 include enhancements to STEP file import that provide a feature tree before importing all STEP geometry. This gives users the option to select individual components to preview and import without the need to import the entire assembly file. A huge productivity improvement when working with large assembly imports.

SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation 2024 introduces the ability to import and export component lists to and from Excel. The Abacus solver delivers stress and displacement results, providing confidence in design decisions.

Visualize Professional has received many new updates over the past year, but there are a few that really stand out in SOLIDWORKS 2024. Appearances are revamped with a new DSPBR format that gives you the flexibility to create any appearance from this great material. The manipulator is updated with new keyboard shortcuts and is paired with the scale tool. And lastly, the render output window has been transformed into a wizard-style dialog box, helping you choose the right settings without wasting time. Composer 2024 now supports SpeedPaks, so converting large SOLIDWORKS assemblies containing SpeedPaks now works in Composer. This is great for everyone, but will really benefit anyone running Composer Sync, Sync Enterprise, or any other custom automation to transfer data from SOLIDWORKS to Composer.

SOLIDWORKS 2024 introduces a number of valuable enhancements to DimXpert and Model Based Definition. It offers an improved display feature that ensures DimXpert dimensions always remain on top of 3D models regardless of their orientation, eliminating confusion. The software also now supports the use of hole tables in 3D parts, simplifying the representation of multiple hole sizes and locations. This release also adds dual dimensions to feature control frames, giving users greater flexibility when dimensioning tapered features. It introduces the ability to create thickness dimensions between curved surfaces, making it easier to specify the distance between those surfaces. Additionally, SOLIDWORKS 2024 streamlines dimension management by allowing DimXpert dimensions to be reconnected to new reference entities, eliminating the need to recreate dimensions when references change. Finally, the software enables the export of custom properties using the STEP 242 command, improving data management and sharing capabilities.

Manufacturer Part Information checkbox to remove component property information when the manufacturer part is removed from the component. Ranges can be used in the report instead of listing all marks. Objects can be moved using arrow keys. Auxiliary components and accessories can be filtered from the 3D component tree. Multiple rail or conduit lengths can be adjusted at once. The Align 3D Components command has been updated and Active Location Routing can be selected when routing harnesses.

SOLIDWORKS PDM 2024 gives you a reason to fall in love with assembly visualization again! The ability to toggle the display of your files on and off while designing will save you time. Web2 users will love the new tile mode and the ability to download previous versions of files. PDM 2024 is faster than ever. Adding files, changing status, and tree copy commands are about twice as fast as in 2023. If you copy the tree to a zip file, you will experience orders of magnitude of performance.

Starting from basic reference images, we can easily scale and shape our design by adjusting the mesh with minimal effort. xShape simplifies the traditional design process by eliminating the need for complex sketches and surface features. It allows for precise placement of mesh points and offers tools to add material, refine the mesh, and control the smoothness of our design. *xGenerative Design
xGenerative Design on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is an amazing tool that uses node scripting to create complex three-dimensional patterns. These patterns can be applied to the most sharply contoured surfaces. If the underlying shape on which the part is placed is altered, the pattern adapts to this modification with minimal effort on the part of the user. Small and large changes to the pattern can be captured through design variation or revision history. The script-based approach to modeling combined with cloud computing opens up a world of possibilities for you to quickly iterate through and iterate on your most intricate pattern ideas.
*Lattice Design
Infill patterns are a great way to lighten a product while maintaining performance, and Lattice Design meets this structural challenge at the modeling stage. A list of options is available for the pattern unit cell, and the selection can be further customized with size and radius parameters. As you might expect, the model can be fully interrogated in 3D space. Changes and revisions can further capture variations from your ideas for visual comparisons of the final mesh profile. Numerous enhancements have been added to the latest release of SOLIDWORKS to simplify CNC machining setup in SOLIDWORKS CAM 2024. You can now add material to the tops of islands with a new Direction2 in Island Creation, use Flute Length to control our depth of cut on operations, and normalize contour milling inputs with added linking functionality.
In SOLIDWORKS CAM 2024, you can also select tools more easily with a resized Tool Selection Filter window, have SOLIDWORKS CAM automatically use Flute Length for Tool Selection in TechDB, change Undercut Tool output based on top or bottom of Flute Length, and finally gain quick access to Machining Features and Operations using SOLIDWORKS 2024’s Dynamic Model Geometry Highlighting.
