South32 has announced that the Western Australian Minister for Environment has ruled on the appeal concerning the Worsley Mine Development Project, which aims to extend the operational life of the Worsley Alumina site. This decision has been deemed favorable by South32 for Worsley Alumina.
Earlier, the Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority (WA EPA) had suggested approving the project, albeit with certain conditions that Worsley Alumina found potentially problematic for operations. Following this, Worsley Alumina lodged an appeal. The Minister has now concurred with the Appeals Committee's recommendations to modify some of these conditions, taking into account the arguments presented during the appeal process by Worsley Alumina, among others.
