Switzerland experienced a slight deceleration in consumer price inflation towards the end of the year, as disclosed by the Federal Statistical Office on Tuesday. In December, the consumer price index increased by 0.6 percent year-on-year, aligning with forecasts, following a 0.7 percent increase in November.
Housing and energy prices surged by 3.4 percent annually, while recreation and culture saw a 1.1 percent rise. Conversely, the prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages declined by 0.9 percent compared to the previous year, and transportation costs were 1.9 percent lower.
The agency reported that the average annual inflation rate for 2024 was 1.1 percent. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices consistently decreased by 0.1 percent in December, meeting expectations and marking the fourth consecutive monthly decline.
