Switzerland's unemployment rate remained stable in December, as reported by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) on Friday. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 2.6 percent, consistent with the previous month of November, contradicting expectations of a slight rise to 2.7 percent.
During December, the number of unemployed individuals saw a minimal increase of 208, totaling 121,800. When considering the figures without seasonal adjustments, the unemployment rate edged up to 2.8 percent, compared to 2.6 percent the month prior.
For 2024, the average annual unemployment rate was recorded at 2.4 percent, a rise from 2.0 percent in 2023. This increase in unemployment equated to an additional 19,027 individuals compared to the previous year. Additionally, data revealed that the youth unemployment rate escalated to 2.3 percent in 2024, up from 2.0 percent in 2023.
