Kosmos Energy Ltd., an independent company specializing in deepwater oil and gas exploration and production, has confirmed that it is in the very early stages of discussing a potential all-stock proposal for Tullow Oil plc (TLW.L).

Tullow Oil also acknowledged on Thursday the ongoing discussions between the two companies.

Both Kosmos Energy and Tullow Oil emphasized that there is no guarantee that a formal offer will be made, nor any assurance regarding the terms on which any potential offer might be based.

Kosmos Energy stated that it retains the right to alter the composition of the offer consideration and modify the transaction structure. Further details will be disclosed as necessary.

Per Tullow Oil's statement, Kosmos is required either to announce a definitive offer for Tullow or to declare the absence of any such intention by 5.00 p.m. on January 9.

On Thursday, Tullow Oil's share price increased by 5.6%, closing the day at 26 pence.
