The U.S. Commerce Department released data on Thursday indicating that retail sales saw a modest rise in December, although the increase was less significant than anticipated. According to the report, retail sales climbed 0.4% last month, following a 0.8% increase in November, which was revised upward. Analysts had forecasted a 0.6% growth in retail sales, compared to the initially reported 0.7% rise for the previous month. When excluding motor vehicles and parts dealers, retail sales still experienced a 0.4% increase in December, following a 0.2% uptick in November. This adjustment aligns with economists' expectations.
