DAZN ( "da zone") is a global sports entertainment platform. Different to traditional linear and satellite broadcasting, DAZN is an over-the-top (OTT) streaming service meaning that it is delivered directly to viewers via the internet.
The DAZN service streams live and on-demand sports content in more than 200 countries and territories. It holds the domestic broadcasting rights for top professional football leagues in its main markets – Italy's Serie A, Spain's La Liga and Germany's Bundesliga and Japan's J League – as well as global boxing rights through its partnership with Matchroom, Golden Boy, Anthony Joshua, and Misfits Boxing.Shay Segev, former CEO of FTSE 100 sports betting and gaming company Entain, became CEO of DAZN in January 2021, having been co-CEO with DAZN founder James Rushton for the previous six months.In July 2022, Shay Segev announced plans to diversify DAZN's business model adding features to the service that allow viewers to chat with each other, choose alternative commentators (such as YouTube personalities or former players), view in an online 'watch party' with friends as well as play games and bet while viewing live sports.Kevin A. Mayer, the former chairman of direct-to-consumer and international at The Walt Disney Company and former CEO of TikTok, became DAZN's chairman in March 2021.DAZN was established in 2016 by Perform Group, a sports media company majority-owned by Access Industries that also owns Deezer and Warner Music Group. In September 2018, Perform Group spun out its sports data businesses, and renamed the remainder of the company DAZN Group.
In December 2018, DAZN was estimated to be worth £3 billion: it was described by the Evening Standard as one of the United Kingdom's few tech "unicorns".In October 2019, mobile analytics firm SensorTower listed DAZN as having overtaken Major League Baseball as the highest-grossing sports-related mobile app in the first half of 2019 in terms of worldwide revenue on application storefronts.In September 2022, DAZN announced plans to acquire ELEVEN Sports and Team Whistle.
